All Hail the Slug Queen
There is plenty to celebrate at the annual Eugene Celebration in Oregon, including the crowning of the Slug Queen.

The Eugene Celebration is a Mardi Gras-type party in mid-September that flamboyantly bids farewell to summer. Entertainment includes a Slug Queen competition and coronation – “Slug” being an acronym for the Society for the Legitimization of the Ubiquitous Gastropod.

Why a Slug Queen? Nobody really knows, except that Eugene is home to its share of eccentrics – of which the city is proud.
