222 to 0?
It's true. Cumberland University of Lebanon, Tenn., once lost a football game to Georgia Tech by the score of 222-0.

After decades in hibernation, football reawakened at Cumberland University (Tenn.) in 1990.

But many who follow college football still know that Cumberland has the dubious distinction of suffering the all-time worst defeat on record. It was Oct. 7, 1916, when the Cumberland team traveled by train to Atlanta for the ill-fated game against Georgia Tech.

The game finally ended with the score Georgia Tech 222, Cumberland 0.

With a loss like that in your past, people are truly curious about your future. When the university first announced its return to football in 1990, they were featured in the New York Times, on ESPN as well as on local sports pages across the state.

The publicity actually helped the school in its initial recruitment for football athletes.
